Emo Kylo Ren is the best thing on Twitter right now

Adam Driver Emo Kylo Ren

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD. Please read only if you have already seen The Force Awakens.

Kylo Ren was billed as the new “big bad” to lead the forces of darkness against the Jedi and Resistance, and he didn’t disappoint. The character, portrayed with complexity by Adam Driver, was the embodiment of inner conflict. It’s unclear as to where his motivations truly lie, with some fan theories suggesting he could be driven by a desire to end the dark side by taking out Snoke, while others point to his role in destroying five planets and a certain hero as a pretty clear indication that he is moving towards pure darkness.

Whatever the case, his family history and lack of control over his base emotions point to an angst-ridden soul. This, plus the dark, broody physical appearance of the unmasked Kylo, have led many to draw connections between Master Ren and moody, hormonal adolescents.

The finest embodiment of this notion is a new Twitter account – suitably named “Emo Kylo Ren” (username KyloR3n) that serves as a pseudo journal for the character during his teen years; revealing the inner drama he faces dealing with his parents, school mates and challenging relationship with Nazi-inspired Hux. It’s a parody piece, of course, with its author identified as witty Washington Post contributor Alexandra Petri.

Below is a sampling of some of Kylo’s most emo – and borderline hipster – journal entries.

What do you think? Will Ben ever emerge from this emotional rut?

Bad Lip Reading brings a Star Wars gift to us all

The crew behind Bad Lip Reading – famous for dubbing footage from film, TV, sporting events and political highlights with largely nonsensical but often riotously funny alternative dialogue – has delivered in a big way. Clearly inspired by the mammoth attention heaped upon the debut of The Force Awakens, they have just simultaneously launched three Star Wars “Lip Reading” videos. These parody events and characters from A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

What’s more, this series of videos is dubbed by some impressive voiceover talent, including Kung Fu Panda himself – Jack Black, as well as Maya Rudolf and Bill Hader. Given Hader’s attachment, it’s possible that Disney has subtly given these shorts their blessing (he recently voiced a major character in Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out).

There’s plenty to love about these, including surprising transformations of Chewie and Jabba. Musical pieces also feature, with Obi Wan Kenobi’s folk ballad “Bushes of Love” and Luke’s R&B AT-AT raid track particular highlights. We hope you love these new perspectives on the original classics.

Hello from the Dark Side – The Adele parody you need to hear

The performers at RoyishGoodLooks have outdone themselves, with a parody of Adele’s anthem Hello that hits all of the right notes.

Hello from the Dark Side somehow still possesses the same emotive vocal impact that Adele delivered in her recent hit, while telling a sombre tale of Vader’s failure to convince Luke to follow in the family business. The result is humorous, catchy and guaranteed to be stuck in your head for days. Listen and enjoy!
